THE MARMANET FOREST EXPLORATION

Marmanet Forest is a forest in Kenya and has an elevation of 2,439 meters. Marmanet Forest is situated north of Shamenek. The Marmanet forests are on the eastern escarpment of the Rift Valley, north of Nyahururu. They comprise five reserves: Lariak, Marmanet, Ol Arabel, Rumuruti and Uaso Narok. Early departure from Nairobi to Elephant View Sironi Farm House via Nyahururu Town. The Elephant View Sironi Farm House is next to the Marmanet Forest gate.

After a briefing session and gear check, we begin the full hike into Marmanet Forest. The hike takes about 7-8 hours with a picnic lunch en route.

We have a chance of seeing one of the big five (elephants in their natural habitat and elephant maternity sites).

The hike takes you back in history to learn more about Joseph Thomson (who named Thomson's Fall in Nyahururu) and his mission in Africa. Marmanet Forest was part of the Mau Mau rebellion's hiding areas and therefore provides a rich history of Kenya's struggle for independence.
