Main house: 2 Rooms,Garden Cottages: 4 Rooms Each with Double Rooms
The main house is spacious and comfortable with a verandah that overlooks a sweeping landscape of flower beds and large native trees. The four garden cottages sit just to the east of the main house with views of the gardens and distant Tanzanian landscapes. The interiors are decorated in a colonial style with many pieces designed and created by local artisans. Normal capacity is 12 persons in 6 double rooms (four rooms, however, can add an extra bed).The main house has 2 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. These rooms adjoin and can be opened up into a family suite. The cottages are doubles with a bathroom and a front verandah three have a fireplace. The ensuite bathrooms have 2 vanity sinks each, an enclosed shower and a separate enclosed toilet. Hairdryers can be provided upon request. There is a swimming pool next to the main house (along with a pool bar) and fireplaces in the lounge and dining room for the cold season.
Besides the two guest rooms, the main house at Shangazi houses the dining area with fireplace, the living/bar room with fireplace and the office /reception area. It is furnished in the style of a private house with French windows and interiors with classical lines. Meals can be served on the verandah, in the dining area and snacks at the swimming pool area depending on time of day and weather conditions. Food is home-cooking with many of the vegetables and herbs coming from Shangazis own gardens where industrial pesticides are avoided and organic practice is encouraged.
Shangazi House is no more than a ten-minute drive from Arusha National Park, which is a splendid mix of mountains and lakes. The parks wildlife is prolific and diverse. The house staff can arrange park visits in their game-viewing vehicles, and sightings could include elephant, giraffe, hippo, zebra, bush-buck, and leopard, not to mention the excellent birding. Trips to Arusha, as well as visits to the nearby villages and tribal markets round off the experience. Hiking and canoeing are also possible, and staff will arrange these activities with fully trained guides.
